At 22 years old, this Brooklyn-born rapper and producer has already helped redefine what it means to be a contemporary female artist. In our conversation, she effortlessly flitted between Bad Brains, Yu-Gi-Oh, and discussions of feminism. Combining traits of Coco Chanel, Lil Kim, and Missy Elliott – Leaf first broke onto the scene with a Lil Yachty collab, and has so much she wants to share – she’s been described as the Oprah of Rap for her empowering message to young women. One thing’s clear: Leaf is here to change the world. By giving one less f--- at a time.

“I don't really call myself a rapper, I call myself an artist. I mean, what even is genre in 2017?”

“Just because I watch anime and I'm vegan doesn't mean I'm not hip-hop. Cause hip-hop was founded on the fact that kids didn't want to to do what other people were doing. As long as we're evolving, it's hip-hop.”

“F**k opinions. I feel I spent a lot of time getting to a place where I didn't have to care about what people thought about my music or how I looked or anything. And the freer I am, the better I feel and the more people like my art.”

“Most girls recreate themselves every time they step out of the door. Today I'm punk rock, tomorrow I'm glam goth. Who cares, you know? I love to change my style, and I think Creative Recreation embodies that as well.”
